[Upon getting Bloody's blessing, I'll be taking over the capt. either temporarily or permanently. If this post goes against his character than he has complete rights to tweak it.]
Jade re-polarized her faceplate, when she noted that it was taking the capt. a fairly long time to reply. Fearing that his collapse would cause the already low morale to implode in on itself, she picked up the veteran soldier by the collars of his officers suit, she could hear him mumbling about something or other, what she thought was 'cherry pie' and a woman named 'Betty', Jade found that both odd and disturbing, but at least she knew he wasn't dead and thats all that mattered. She helped him to a shelter on the opposite plateau within the safety of Jades 'RED' Squadron that had set up a defensive perimeter around the more defensible plateau, setting him against the rock face in a shallow cave she took to looking him over, checking to see if he hadn't broken anything or held any internal bleeding. "So far, so good" she thought to herself when she completed her *thorough* physical of her commanding officer, a small smile crept its way across her face from within her helmet and as hard as she tried she couldn't get it to disappear. A lone thought kept playing over and over throughout her warrior mind; "Damn he looks good for an officer, quite the physique too!" The legionaire turned abruptly and faced the second in command--her Sgt. Carl and gave him an order, trying to keep and even and commanding tone as she could manage,
"Sgt.! I need three of your best scouts to begin searching these caves, I don't want anymore surprises while were marooned out here. Understood?"
The Sgt. hesitated a hairs breath before giving a curt reply,
"Yes, Ma'am!"
And he gave a stiff salute before turning on his heels and leaving the temporary 'command center'. Jade then realized her folly and corrected it then and there, she called out to the Sgt. as well as announced herself over TEAMCOM,
"Attention! Due to the incapacitated state of the Capt. I will be taking over command until the Capt. is able to take back his rightful position. As the next highest ranking officer; First Lt., I by military law and code take over command when the CO cannot perform his/her duty, stated in sect. 24F, Pg. 1456. I need your cooperation and trust until we can leave this place, we must work as a team. First Lt., Jade Ikeda, Legionaire in the Beta co. signing out."
She then walked out of the shallow cave and stepped into the red glow of this planets sun, with a new found weight on her shoulders, the weight of having so many lives in her hands, responsible for everyone of 'em, to think her an assassin amongst the Legionaires--a loner to be in charge of some 60 odd men, made her shudder and yet she couldn't back away from it it was something she had to do.
~On the opposite plateau with the mutating soldier~ Here was the platoons medic, a burly, middle-aged man that bore many scars from countless forgotten conflicts, his skin as deep as a carrots with small blotches of brown around his arms, chest, face and neck--skin cancer was getting to him, all those years in the comfort of the southern hemispheres 'hospitality' had finally caught up to him. His hair was long and shaggy, a strict violation of military law, but no one questioned him, he was one of the most decorated officers in the entire army--a real hero. His eyes bore into you as he searched out your flaws those hazels glass globes, searching for some weakness, he was as much a killer as he was a healer, a dangerous enemy to have and a worse friend. This surly medic sat on the ruined plateau, he'd heard this 'Legionaires' quaint speech and wasn't the slightest bit impressed. He was weary of super soldiers and would not easily take orders from one.
he sat back and pulled a cigarette from a small compartment within the armor he bore, his assault rifle lay at his side and he looked relaxed, amidst all the chaos and the ensuing mayhem he had retained unnerving calmness, effortlessly killing scores of aliens without blinking, he sat there and starred at the seizing soldier who lay in front of him, taking a long drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaling, he knew that this bright eyed kid would be gone in a matter of moments, and he also knew that he should just kill the lad, put him out if his misery. But here was his unique problem; he was a medic--a doctor he'd taken an oath to save lives, and yet he was also a cold blooded killer who was efficient at his craft. So he sat there motionless, inhaling the smoke from his cigarette and watched the boy seize in front of him.
~On the face of the plateau~ The good Sgt. had done as ordered and even more so after hearing his leaders rank and title among the elite soldiers, he was a career soldier from a long line of soldiers, the idea of questioning orders didn't exist within him and so he walked around the face of the plateau searching for able men He saw many men and women who were capable but he needed that extra something, that drive, determination and put plainly that craziness to look death in the eye and laugh, to face a dark cave filled most likely with more of those worm things and then to be tasked with finding and eliminating any and all alien threat whilst keeping an eye for a back way out. An nearly impossible task to say the least. the Sgt. did not flinch or even blink at this thought, that term also did not exist to him and so the soldier known as Carl Bastion walked along the face until he came upon a small group of soldiers who were chatting amongst themselves, all had that exact look within their eyes and fire in their bellies, a small smile perked briefly across his face, he'd found them. He walked up to the group and grunted, they all noticed and gave stiff salutes and in unison replied "Sir!". They were grunts, good, Carl thought, all the more willing would they be to prove themselves,
"At ease, men. I've got something of importance to discuss with you and I know you'll like it."
[Note: This is a point where people who have been watching this rp develope may join. If your interested do so now and here, during this conversation. Another point will come, but much later.]
~back at the shallow cave~ Jade had been staring off into the horizon, pondering when the aliens counter attack will come and from where, she saw and knew of several points and none were well suited to her tactical needs than the others, in fact they all left her too exposed for her own liking. she was lost in thought, trying to decide the best course of action, staying here on this ledge was quite a risk, she knew she should tell her men to pack up and move out, they were harder to find and fight on the move, but that posed a problem as well; if she left and went on the march, there was no cover all around her was desert, and no where but her current position was there cover. The First Lt. grunted her frustrations under her breath, she was trapped and she knew it and to make it worse her men were dying from wounds they'd received in the battle or the ones from the last one where they were returning from 'victorious'. She scoffed at the thought, there was nothing victorious about that battle it had been one of attrition and barely one, with half of the fleet and armies wiped out and another half captured or dying on the field, that was no victory and she knew that well. from behind her she heard a soft voice--a womans voice, one that was out of place on the battle field,
"*Ahem* Ma'am. I'm picking up a distress signal on long range scanners. Its faint and is blocked by heavy interference. But it is definitely a earth forces SOS, Ma'am and...its a capital frigate as well. What should we do?"
Jade turned on her heels, nearly knocking over the petite and slender woman before her, the woman a intelligence officer by the name of Shannon Sunrider, a pale, dark haired, green eyed, young girl who was alluring beyond natural means, even now Jade could feel herself drawn to her, there was something wrong with this woman. First Lt. Ikeda replayed the news over and over again in her head, weighing the possiblities, the obvious trap it might be, the fact that it might be the only way off this rock, the fact that Jade knew not where this captital ship was or even if it was found by the enemy, her mind rapidly formed all sorts of possiblities to this new situation, and despite all its risks, she couldn't get around the fact that this might be the only way off this planet but even deeper than that, she couldn't leave anyone behind and more than that she knew there were others like her on that ship, Legionaires had been assembled in droves on all ships to counter this alien threat, there was no doubt in her mind she would find someone she knew. After what had been 35 minutes of silence, jade finally spoke,
"Officer Shannon you are sure about this data? Then we have to set out to find it. I want you to triangulate the coordinates of that frigate, get us as close as possible to it and after that I want you to scan the aliens chanals see if they know about us, the ship, the fleet, or this world. Understand?"
With a tantilizing smirk the intelligence officer snapped a sacrastic salute and replied,
"Aye, aye ma'am!"
And then returned to her many devices sprawled out all over the floor around the capt. and the small cave.
