the cat creatures came closer to the top and skipped Jake, (because he looked dead enough) And headed for the higher rank soldiers.

-----------------------------------------
what is the ranks, like who is higher than who?

Staff Edit: The highest rank so far is Bloodies char at Capt. And the creatures would not distinguish rank, they just skipped over you because you looked dead enough. Thats all you need to say, don't worry this is not a warning.

The captain cussed under his breath. He grabbed Jake and dragged him away and some of the other soliders shot at the aliens. He looked at his team, "Keep them back, and keep your distance!" The soliders seemed to understand. As the captain got closer to his team, he turned around and took out a small hand-bomb. He estimated the distance inbetween them and threw the bomb.

Beep, Beep, BEEP, BBBOOOOMMMM~

The bomb went off and everyone ducked. It was a risky move, but they had to save on bullets. The aliens scream, but as the smoke cleared a little, it was apparent that some of them were still alive. The aliens looked around confused, but then they all looked forward and began to hiss words. Regrouping, they started walking towards the soliders, there weapons ready. All the soliders got prepared for upclose battle, but suddenly the ground cracked. Everyone watch the crack as it was created from one side of the plataeu (where the aliens are), to the middle of it (where the captain and Jake were). The captain stood up and helped Jake up. He pushed them to run to the other side with all the other soliders, but Jake was slowing them down. Within an instant, the side of the plataeu came crashing and breaking down. The aliens yelled as they fell. The captain pushed Jake forward to saftey as the plataeu broke under him, causing him to fall along with the aliens.

~Meanwhile in the narrow pass~

Jade and the Champion had been battling poetically for many rounds, neither gaining a decisive victory. Jade who was the best martial artist, sniper, and stealth assassin in her graduating class was holding her own against her adversaries onslaught. He was good, she admitted.

The Champion broke a deadlock, swinging his polearm back and around in a downward and sweeping arc, Jade seeing this backflipped just in time for the Beam to graze her shields, causing them to fall to 50%, if she hadn't moved Jade would've surely died. She landed in a three part stance, or the wounded dog, her body horizontal to the ground, legs bent forward supporting her weight and one palm in the sand, she lunged forward at the champion, who raised his polearm in defense. But in the last second, she dove into the air, flipped around and landed her heels into the chest plate of the creature, who reeled back stunned, not pausing for a moment, she flipped back upon her feet and charged the beast, low, raising underneath its downward strike and stabbing her dagger through the champions throat and head. The thing gargled frantically, before sputtering to its death. Jade removed her blade and gave the thing a powerful side kick which sent the alien sprawling back to the opposite Plateau wall.

"..."

Jade turned to her right and saw the scattering defensive circle of the aliens, a moment ago they were holding their ground, why were they fleeing in such a panicked way? Jade asked herself before she followed the gaze of a grunt who'd froze in place, to her horror she saw that half of the plateau was falling to the earth, a score of the cat-like aliens tumbling with it and being crushed by the falling debris. She then craned her head upwards and saw that she too was in the falling debris' path, Jade stood still, she magnified her view times two and saw a human soldier falling with the aliens, apparently locked in combat with one as they fell, again she magnified and realized that it  was the Capt.!

Without a hesitation she ran full speed at the rock face before her, she jumped over the Champion and landed on the remaining stable face of the wall, she began to run up it, before she noticed a falling rock big enough for her to jump onto, she did so and continued to do so until she made her way to the falling Capt.. Time slowed to a crawl it seemed, the rocks continued to fall, crushing soldier and alien alike, jade unholstered her side arm, and pointed at the cat-like "Cougar" creature, she pulled the trigger four times, as she jumped onto various falling rocks, the Cougar sputtered and  died mid-air, the beam sword it held clicked off and plummeted faster. Jade tossed her sidearm towards the ground near her side of the plateau, and lunged at the Capt. catching him as she spiraled around a tumbling rock, she kicked off another rock and stretched out a lone hand, for an agonizing three seconds it caught nothing but air. Jade thought breifly that she was going to fail. A dark thought for a Legionaire. But at the last second her hand clutched onto a jagged edge of the face of the now tattered plateau.

Gravity took over and she slid farther down, still clutching onto the face, her grip caused the rock to rip away as if it were paper, she finally came to a stop *** ft above the sand, she looked up to see rocks still falling overhead. Over her COM and speaker she asked the Capt.,

"Sir, are you alright?"

She was surprised to see he was still alive.

* * *

The defensive circle had scattered and began to take shelter wherever they could, trying to escape the rockslide, RED TEAM began to pick them off with ease. Having already sanitized their face of Cougars, they shot all of the enemies like they were sport for hunting, none escaped. Either they were crushed under the rockslide or had died from the hail of bullets. Finally the rockslide subsided and all became eerily quiet.

Sgt. Carl yelled to his men,

"Men report wounded and casualties. And stay alert I don't want anymore surprises. Got it."

One after another his Team reported in, during the botched ambush over 40% percent had died or been wounded. Some had taken a plasma blast to the shoulder, others a leg, arm or side, some had lost an arm trying to repel the Cougars. All in all it was a hard fought victory.

On the opposite plateau The Capt.'s men began to send down ropes for their Capt. and Jade.

Some of the aliens had unfortunately escaped the rockslide and began to head back to their base or dropships. Running for their lives, scared ****less.

The captain mumbled a few words that were incomprehensible. He was dazed and out of it. The other half of the soliders ran down to see the condition of the Captain. "We should find shelter to rest the wounded." A solider suggested holding Jake up, and examining the soliders that had been hurt on the feild.

Jade climbed up the rock face, she ignored the ropes that dangled beside her as she climbed because she knew that with her armor on she was too heavy to be held up by ordinary men. It didn't take her long to reach the cracked and cratered surface of the shattered and ruined plateau. When she was upon her feet again she surveyed the surroundings, the soldiers she'd fought with for countless battles now lay dead or gravely wounded by her miscalculation and tactical error, she held herself solely responsible for the lives lost. From within her helmet she bit her lower lip and tried desperately to hold back her tears, then her duty and training reasserted itself and she snapped an order over TEAM COM,

"Sgt. Carl! Status report! ASAP. I want a count on casualties and ammunition."

Five minutes paused and the com crackled with static, then slowly an uncharacteristically cold voice came through,

"Ma'am, there are 40% casualties, out of the 20 men we had at the beginning of the ambush, there are about 15 men at full or 2/3's strength left and we have..."

He paused as he ordered his men to count the ammo left in their guns and the extra clips they had, after another five minutes he cracked back on in a more proud and curt voice,

"Ma'am, we have over 80% ammo reserves, our men followed orders to the letter ma'am. We're more than prepared for anything, orders ma'am?"

Jade thought on it and then said,

"Stand by soldier."

And then she turned to face the capt.'s men, she surveyed them and the unconscious armored soldier. She then turned to face the capt., took in his demeanor and asked him a question over the speaker,

"Sir, What should we do? My men can either scout ahead or stay here and rest for the day, if that is your command, then I ask that you place us on guard. But I also must stress that everyone must climb to the second plateau as it is largely unharmed by the ambush. Towards the top I found some caves, that seem to go back far. So again I ask you sir, What is your command?"

She unpolarized her faceplate in an uncommon gesture made by Legionaires; revealing her face, full of determination, that only the capt. could discern as wanting to make amends for the many soldiers deaths. Her eyes burned with conviction as she looked upon the dazed commanding figure before her. She would follow his orders unquestioningly, that was her duty and what her training dictated she do.

~On the dropship~

The champion who had escaped the ambush, slammed his tightened fist into the side of the ships hull, causing a small dent to be left as he removed it. The few grunts, cougars and shield carrying aliens that had survived and fled all looked at him in awe and fear. Among the alien races, his kind raised fear and and astonishment towards the other "lesser" races. The champion known as Lek'gola began to swear in its language, her would swear vengeance for his fallen team and redeem his honor, fleeing from battle was one of the single biggest disgraces a Shokaan could do. He would be viewed as a Hanau'po or leper in his kind, until he regained his honor, probably on his death. Again he crashed twin thunderous fists into the hull, his three hinged jaws flexing in rage, the spines on his back grew bright red,

"Pilot! Take us back to the Shipmaster! We have found spies and the must be cleansed from the 'sword world, Ragnarök!"

He boomed his command and the pilot quaked and obeyed, the dropship rocketed into the atmosphere and headed for a Triangular-spherical destroyer alien ship known as 'The Subjugation'.

[The champion that fled from battle who was fighting Joehio = Lek'gola
The champion race is known among the alien legions as Shokaan
One of the biggest disgraces to a Shokaan is to be a Hanau'po or a turncoat, a fleer of combat. And they are seen as lepers among their kind.] There more will come with time, again I'm borrowing heavily from the Book Halo: Ghosts of Onyx.

[Upon getting Bloody's blessing, I'll be taking over the capt. either temporarily or permanently. If this post goes against his character than he has complete rights to tweak it.]

Jade re-polarized her faceplate, when she noted that it was taking the capt. a fairly long time to reply. Fearing that his collapse would cause the already low morale to implode in on itself, she picked up the veteran soldier by the collars of his officers suit, she could hear him mumbling about something or other, what she thought was 'cherry pie' and a woman named 'Betty', Jade found that both odd and disturbing, but at least she knew he wasn't dead and thats all that mattered. She helped him to a shelter on the opposite plateau within the safety of Jades 'RED' Squadron that had set up a defensive perimeter around the more defensible plateau, setting him against the rock face in a shallow cave she took to looking him over, checking to see if he hadn't broken anything or held any internal bleeding. "So far, so good" she thought to herself when she completed her *thorough* physical of her commanding officer, a small smile crept its way across her face from within her helmet and as hard as she tried she couldn't get it to disappear. A lone thought kept playing over and over throughout her warrior mind; "Damn he looks good for an officer, quite the physique too!"  The legionaire turned abruptly and faced the second in command--her Sgt. Carl and gave him an order, trying to keep and even and commanding tone as she could manage,

"Sgt.! I need three of your best scouts to begin searching these caves, I don't want anymore surprises while were marooned out here. Understood?"

The Sgt. hesitated a hairs breath before giving a curt reply,

"Yes, Ma'am!"

And he gave a stiff salute before turning on his heels and leaving the temporary 'command center'. Jade then realized her folly and corrected it then and there, she called out to the Sgt. as well as announced herself over TEAMCOM,

"Attention! Due to the incapacitated state of the Capt. I will be taking over command until the Capt. is able to take back his rightful position. As the next highest ranking officer; First Lt., I by military law and code take over command when the CO cannot perform his/her duty, stated in sect. 24F, Pg. 1456. I need your cooperation and trust until we can leave this place, we must work as a team.  First Lt., Jade Ikeda, Legionaire in the Beta co. signing out."

She then walked out of the shallow cave and stepped into the red glow of this planets sun, with a new found weight on her shoulders, the weight of having so many lives in her hands, responsible for everyone of 'em, to think her an assassin amongst the Legionaires--a loner to be in charge of some 60 odd men, made her shudder and yet she couldn't back away from it it was something she had to do.

~On the opposite plateau with the mutating soldier~
Here was the platoons medic, a burly, middle-aged man that bore many scars from countless forgotten conflicts, his skin as deep as a carrots with small blotches of brown around his arms, chest, face and neck--skin cancer was getting to him, all those years in the comfort of the southern hemispheres 'hospitality' had finally caught up to him. His hair was long and shaggy, a strict violation of military law, but no one questioned him, he was one of the most decorated officers in the entire army--a real hero. His eyes bore into you as he searched out your flaws those hazels glass globes, searching for some weakness, he was as much a killer as he was a healer, a dangerous enemy to have and a worse friend. This surly medic sat on the ruined plateau, he'd heard this 'Legionaires' quaint speech and wasn't the slightest bit impressed. He was weary of super soldiers and would not easily take orders from one.

he sat back and pulled a cigarette from a small compartment within the armor he bore, his assault rifle lay at his side and he looked relaxed, amidst all the chaos and the ensuing mayhem he had retained unnerving calmness, effortlessly killing scores of aliens without blinking, he sat there and starred at the seizing soldier who lay in front of him, taking a long drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaling, he knew that this bright eyed kid would be gone in a matter of moments, and he also knew that he should just kill the lad, put him out if his misery. But here was his unique problem; he was a medic--a doctor he'd taken an oath to save lives, and yet he was also a cold blooded killer who was efficient at his craft. So he sat there motionless, inhaling the smoke from his cigarette and watched the boy seize in front of him.

~On the face of the plateau~
The good Sgt. had done as ordered and even more so after hearing his leaders rank and title among the elite soldiers, he was a career soldier from a long line of soldiers, the idea of questioning orders didn't exist within him and so he walked around the face of the plateau searching for able men He saw many men and women who were capable but he needed that extra something, that drive, determination and put plainly that craziness to look death in the eye and laugh, to face a dark cave filled most likely with more of those worm things and then to be tasked with finding and eliminating any and all alien threat whilst keeping an eye for a back way out. An nearly impossible task to say the least. the Sgt. did not flinch or even blink at this thought, that term also did not exist to him and so the soldier known as Carl Bastion walked along the face until he came upon a small group of soldiers who were chatting amongst themselves, all had that exact look within their eyes and fire in their bellies, a small smile perked briefly across his face, he'd found them. He walked up to the group and grunted, they all noticed and gave stiff salutes and in unison replied "Sir!". They were grunts, good, Carl thought, all the more willing would they be to prove themselves,

"At ease, men. I've got something of importance to discuss with you and I know you'll like it."

[Note: This is a point where people who have been watching this rp develope may join. If your interested do so now and here, during this conversation. Another point will come, but much later.]

~back at the shallow cave~
Jade had been staring off into the horizon, pondering when the aliens counter attack will come and from where, she saw and knew of several points and none were well suited to her tactical needs than the others, in fact they all left her too exposed for her own liking. she was lost in thought, trying to decide the best course of action, staying here on this ledge was quite a risk, she knew she should tell her men to pack up and move out, they were harder to find and fight on the move, but that posed a problem as well; if she left and went on the march, there was no cover all around her was desert, and no where but her current position was there cover. The First Lt. grunted her frustrations under her breath, she was trapped and she knew it and to make it worse her men were dying from wounds they'd received in the battle or the ones from the last one where they were returning from 'victorious'. She scoffed at the thought, there was nothing victorious about that battle it had been one of attrition and barely one, with half of the fleet and armies wiped out and another half captured or dying on the field, that was no victory and she knew that well. from behind her she heard a soft voice--a womans voice, one that was out of place on the battle field,

"*Ahem* Ma'am. I'm picking up a distress signal on long range scanners. Its faint and is blocked by heavy interference. But it is definitely a earth forces SOS, Ma'am and...its a capital frigate as well. What should we do?"

Jade turned on her heels, nearly knocking over the petite and slender woman before her, the woman a intelligence officer by the name of Shannon Sunrider, a pale, dark haired, green eyed, young girl who was alluring beyond natural means, even now Jade could feel herself drawn to her, there was something wrong with this woman.  First Lt. Ikeda replayed the news over and over again in her head, weighing the possiblities, the obvious trap it might be, the fact that it might be the only way off this rock, the fact that Jade knew not where this captital ship was or even if it was found by the enemy, her mind rapidly formed all sorts of possiblities to this new situation, and despite all its risks, she couldn't get around the fact that this might be the only way off this planet but even deeper than that, she couldn't leave anyone behind and more than that she knew there were others like her on that ship, Legionaires had been assembled in droves on all ships to counter this alien threat, there was no doubt in her mind she would find someone she knew. After what had been 35 minutes of silence, jade finally spoke,

"Officer Shannon you are sure about this data? Then we have to set out to find it. I want you to triangulate the coordinates of that frigate, get us as close as possible to it and after that I want you to scan the aliens chanals see if they know about us, the ship, the fleet, or this world. Understand?"

With a tantilizing smirk the intelligence officer snapped a sacrastic salute and replied,

"Aye, aye ma'am!"

And then returned to her many devices sprawled out all over the floor around the capt. and the small cave.
